Are Your Employees Long Term?

During the path of my career I have had the privilege of working with many different types of companies- public and private, small and large, corporate mindset to more entrepreneurial. Additionally, I have been involved in multiple mergers and acquisitions as well as different executive team restructures  Often times when I have worked at  companies, my interaction scope within the company is limited to the specific project goal and those folks who are working in and around that goal. My biggest joy comes from working with people. On the flip side, my biggest pains in the corporate world have been with employees and time management.  All employees want to feel like they are giving over 100% to  improve their job security and feel good about performance. In actuality, if an employee, given a reasonable amount of workload, cannot get their tasks done within a given timeframe-day/week, then something is amok. It may be the employees time management skills, it may be the workload is too much on the employee, it may be other departments wait until the last minute to uphold their end of the projects. Whatever the case, something needs to be fixed and it is up to managers to tune into their surroundings and employees to fix it.  If not, then you may be looking at delayed projects, poor performance and the burnout of your good employees. Corporate America is tough as it is. Mismanagement makes things even tougher and by not assessing your employees you could be shooting yourself in the foot long term.
