Girl Scout Cookies

I love killing two birds with one stone. Nothing makes me happier than to complete a task which has multiple benefits in multiple areas.  I also love to support the youth of today while they do certain tasks and jobs that will greatly enhance their lives in the future.  One such example is the annual Girl Scout Cookie Drive.  This drive not only raises money for a great organization but it also allows young girls the opportunity to develop sales skills that they may use in the future.  With that being said, I do not ever buy Girl Scout Cookies from the moms or in the office.  It is defeating the opportunity for a young girl to gain the confidence of learning these skills and feeling the pride and benefits resulting in their personal sales.   For me,however, the bad part about the Girl Scout Cookie experience happens after you buy them. Being in my mid to late 40’s, I personally do not want the calories and/or sugar associated with eating several boxes of cookies for the days, weeks or months afterwards. I have learned that if the cookies are in my house, then I know I will eat them.  After giving it some thought, I thought of a great work around….one that will benefit many. I will continue to buy the cookies every year and then hand them out to homeless people. By doing so, I have helped a new little sales person, helped  a fantastic organization, assisted a homeless person with some nutrition ( I do try and buy the most nutritious ones), helped my personal weight goals and ultimately everybody wins. To me, this is out-of-the box thinking……if you don’t mind excusing the pun.
