I have to say that HIMSS was a great success this year. Rumor suggested there were over 35K attendees and upwards of 1300 exhibitors. The schedule was packed with classes and events, short whirlwind meetings and ad hoc conversations in the common areas. It is amazing how many people are in our industry and quite frankly how many you recognize at events like these. I will say that the common theme was innovation with every company’s quest to be at the forefront. With so many emerging technologies, ideas, changes in healthcare and re-packaging of decades-old ideas, everyone is trying to be the next leader. No company wants to miss out on the next big thing. With that being said, I believe there was more angst in the air than usual. Companies cannot be everything to everybody…otherwise you are good at nothing. In the next several years, focus will be the key to success. Each company may have to gamble a bit with where they place there resources but going with what you know always pays off. With so many changes and happenings in the space, it will be interesting to see what the next few years holds for our industry. There is always a new industry leader around the corner.
