Time for Mergers and Acquisitions

There is no better time in the healthcare IT industry for an increase in activity for mergers and acquisitions. There are a plethora of  “one trick pony” companies in the industry that have small to medium customer bases with minimal future growth potential. There are PMS vendors that don’t have an EMR application and EMR vendors without  bonafide PMS functionality. Smaller vendors who don’t want to hassle with meaningful use or ICD10 transitions.   There exists mom and pop billing services needing an influx of capital, as well as PMS/EMR resellers looking to cash out.  Large corporations ( many outside the space) are itching to get more involved in the Healthcare IT arena because they think they can “fix” the industry or they need to diversify their portfolios. Growth by acquisition is happening and will effect all of us in the near future.  Now is the time to watch as a period of mergers and acquisitions is upon us.  Who will be the next powerhouse in the industry? There could be a huge new player or older smaller companies merged to bring better solutions. If there is one thing I know about healthcare, it is always changing.
